国民的人気スポーツとなったランニングだが、女性に多くみられるのが“ランニング狂”。生活の中心がランニングに置かれ、一日のスケジュールもこれを中心に組み立てられる。
このため、一切の家事をしなくなってしまうのだ。週末は家族そっちのけで“ラン友”と地方の大会に2泊3日で遠征。
1日8～10時間の持久走を2日間連続でやってしまうことも当たり前だから、家族とのコミュニケーションはおのずと断絶気味に。この“病気”に夏美夫人もかかってしまっていたようだ。
